The Preserve, New Palestine Window Treatment
Custom New Palestine window treatment crews serving The Preserve homeowners with free in-home measure, repair, replacement.
Houses in this part of New Palestine tend to share a few traits, and those traits shape what gets specified. The questions below cover what usually applies here and where individual openings still differ.
- Services: faux wood blinds, wood blinds, vertical blinds, aluminum mini blinds
- Service area: The Preserve, New Palestine, IN and surrounding areas Two different timelines apply. New custom product takes weeks because it has to be made. Repairs to what's already hanging, a cord lock, a ladder string, a chain that jumped the clutch, are usually far quicker.
- Insured and bonded
- Serving New Palestine, IN since 2008
Local Window Treatment Experience in The Preserve
The Preserve is a big schedule house. At 18 to 28 openings it carries more glass than a High Acres ranch at 10 to 18 or a Countryside two story at 14 to 22, and more of that glass is tall. Wide fixed units with stacked rectangular transoms above them are the current product in this town, along with sliding door walls to the rear, and each of those is a separate decision rather than a repeat. A transom over a fixed unit is a second shade, a second bracket line and often a second control method. Counting windows underestimates the job here. Counting decisions gets closer to it.

The good news is the measuring condition. Recent and close to square is the recorded expectation, which puts The Preserve on the easy side of a town whose squareness is genuinely bimodal: just over half of New Palestine can be treated as factory square, and 12.3% of it is 85 to 185 years old and has to be three point measured opening by opening. Here we still take three points, because should be square and is square are two different claims. But we expect the readings back tight, so a full recess and a predictable light gap are realistic promises on Preserve Pass rather than hopeful ones.
We have served The Preserve homeowners through the full range of window treatment needs, from inspections and repairs to full replacements. Whatever the system, our New Palestine crew approaches every project with clear communication and respect for your property.
The Preserve: 2000s-2020s construction on a landscape named plat
Build era for The Preserve is not individually sourced, and the inference is stated as an inference: the naming style and the street pattern point to the town's 2000s-2020s block. That block is large. New Palestine recorded 483 housing units built from 2000 to 2019 and another 223 since 2020, which together make up 53.2% of the town's 1,326 units and the highest new build share of the five places in its batch. One New Palestine house in six is 2020 or newer. Home count, lot size and price band for this plat are unsourced, because Hancock County's assessor mapping exposes no queryable endpoint to pull them from.
Styles on the record are two story traditional and modern farmhouse. The window vocabulary that goes with them in this town is specific: wide fixed units, stacked rectangular transoms, sliding door walls to the rear, and great room glass in the larger plans. Casing is the other constant. Drywall returns with no applied casing at all is the recorded condition here, and it's the majority condition town wide because 53.2% of the stock is 2000 or newer. New Palestine's median home value is $357,500 with a margin of error of plus or minus $29,981, the highest of the five places in its batch on a population of 3,227.
Tall glass and no casing: what The Preserve measure comes down to
Two conditions define the work here and they pull in opposite directions. The first is depth: drywall returns with no applied casing at all means an inside mount recesses cleanly, and a cellular headrail, a roller cassette or a shutter L-frame sits fully inside the opening. The second is that there's nothing to fasten to on the outside. No casing board means an outside mount bracket lands on wall face and has to find framing behind it, which we locate and mark before quoting any surface mounted product on Preserve Valley Lane. In a 1970s house the casing solves that problem for you. In a 2010s house it doesn't exist.
Then height. Stacked rectangular transoms sit above wide fixed units, and great room glass turns up in the larger plans, so a share of these openings are tall enough to change the arithmetic. Lutron publishes larger inside mount light gaps on shades over 120 inches, or past a 4:1 height to width ratio, and stack height on a tall shade takes real depth off the top of the glass when it's raised. We mark the stack on the wall before the order so you can see what you're giving up. A transom is usually better left uncovered, or given its own treatment, than tied to the unit below it.
18 to 28 openings, and they aren't repeats
The Preserve carries the largest schedule of the sections in this set. A wide fixed unit, the stacked transom above it and a sliding door wall to the rear are three different products, three bracket lines and often three control methods in one room. Pricing per window hides that. We break the quote by opening type so you can see where the money actually sits, then decide which rooms go first.
No casing at all, so an outside mount needs framing found
Drywall returns with no applied casing is the recorded condition here and the majority condition town wide, since 53.2% of New Palestine housing is 2000 or newer. Inside mount is clean and deep. Outside mount is the harder call, because the bracket has nothing but wall face to land on. We find and mark framing before quoting anything surface mounted on Turning Leaf Court or Stony Ridge Court.
Stack height on the tall units
Great room glass and stacked transoms mean tall shades, and every tall shade parks somewhere. Raised fabric and the roller tube take height off the top of your view. Lutron publishes larger light gaps past 120 inches or a 4:1 height to width ratio, so the gap you'd accept on a bedroom is not the gap you'll get on a two story run. We mark the stack on the wall at the measure, before anything is ordered.
Preserve lots may back onto retained ground
Plats named Preserve in Hancock County are typically laid out around a retained natural feature or a conservation easement, which usually puts a share of lots against open or wooded common ground rather than another house. That's an inference from the naming and not from a plat drawing, so we confirm it lot by lot. Where it holds, the rear elevation gets a solar answer and the front gets a privacy one.
What we specify in The Preserve
The specification follows the schedule. With 18 to 28 openings, a share of them tall and unreachable, this is the New Palestine section where automation stops being a luxury item and becomes the only practical way to operate the top of a two story run. It's also where the openings are square enough to promise a tight recess. Climate Zone 5A gives you both loads: an Indianapolis January average low of 20.9F against a July average high of 85.2F. National pricing runs $300 to $1,500 per window installed on motorized, $175 to $800 on shutters, $300 to $4,000 on drapery. Fabrication takes 2 to 5 weeks.
Motorized roller shades for the transom and great room glass
Nothing reaches the top of a two story run on Preserve Pass, so this is where motorization earns its cost. One scene closes the whole west side at once, and a sun sensor or an astronomical timer runs it while the house is empty. The disclosure comes first: Hunter Douglas states PowerView battery life is about one year, and batteries are the most under disclosed cost on a motorized order. Price a hardwired option on the permanent units.
Hardwood plantation shutters on an L-frame inside mount
Because The Preserve is recent and close to square with deep drywall returns, an L-frame recesses fully and the louvers sit inside the opening rather than standing off the wall. That's a promise we can make here and can't make on a settled 1970s opening. Hardwood suits a modern farmhouse front room. Keep it out of the baths: Indiana's muggy season runs 25 May to 22 September and wood moves in it.
Sliding panel track for the rear door wall
A sliding door wall is wide and it's a traffic route, so a product that stacks to one side and clears the handle beats one that hangs across the opening. Panel track runs on a headrail above the door with panels that slide behind each other, and it repeats the vertical line of the stacked transoms above. On a Hidden Preserve Cove plan where the rear wall is mostly glass, that's the difference between using the door and working around a shade.
Custom drapery on a ceiling mounted rod in the great room
Great room glass in the larger Preserve plans runs tall enough that a rod set near the top of the wall reads better than one at the header. Ceiling mounted hardware with a full return and generous fullness also softens a two story room that otherwise has nothing in it absorbing sound. Fullness and yardage get set at the measure, not off a chart. Custom drapery runs $300 to $4,000 per window nationally.
The Preserve streets, Sugar Creek and schools
The Preserve sits east of the New Palestine town core, with Sugar Creek and US 52 as the reference points. Six streets carry the plat: Preserve Pass, Preserve Valley Lane, Hidden Preserve Cove, Turning Leaf Court, Prairie Gap and Stony Ridge Court. Three of them use the Preserve name, which is worth confirming before a delivery. Students attend New Palestine Elementary School, Doe Creek Middle School and New Palestine High School in the Community School Corporation of Southern Hancock County, and New Palestine High School was named a U.S. News Best High School for 2026-27. The town has a 79-acre Town Center project in progress and marks its 150th anniversary in 2026.
